What you should know about weight loss injections, muscles and EMS
More and more people are turning to so-called ‘weight loss injections’ - drugs such as semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), tirzepatide (Mounjaro) or liraglutide (Saxenda), which were originally developed for the treatment of diabetes and are now also used for weight regulation. But how exactly do they work? And what does their use mean for your body, especially your muscles?
Why muscles remain important
A significant change in weight without exercise can lead to a decrease in muscle mass. This can affect your energy levels, posture and general body image. Our muscles are not only important for peak athletic performance. They support us in everyday tasks such as carrying, lifting, walking, standing, maintaining a stable posture or interacting with our metabolism and energy balance.
Exercise and training - whether with your own body weight or not - helps you lose weight and can contribute to consciously maintaining and building up your muscles.
What studies say about weight loss injections and muscle mass
A growing body of research is focussing on the composition of weight loss with GLP-1 drugs. In a study on semaglutide published in The New England Journal of Medicine, it became clear that part of the body mass lost is not only fat, but also muscle tissue.
Experts are therefore increasingly recommending a protein-rich diet and targeted muscle activation. Regular stimulation - e.g. via EMS - can help to maintain body awareness and compensate for the loss of active mass.

Remember: muscle weighs more than fat
If you start to exercise more, you may not see any drastic results on the scales at first. This is completely normal. The important thing is that your body shape can change, you feel more active - and your body gains support from within.
