HYROX x EMS – More performance, fast regeneration & smart training
HYROX is one of the fastest growing fitness competition formats in the world - and for good reason: the combination of functional strength, running performance and mental toughness offers a real challenge. At the same time, HYROX is also a training philosophy - demanding, holistic and designed for long-term performance development.
Electromyostimulation brings new stimuli to functional training and with systems such as Antelope, EMS can be used in the way HYROX demands: mobile, dynamic - without interrupting training. Instead of working in isolation, you train in motion with EMS. That's what makes the difference.
Why EMS is a useful addition to HYROX training
EMS (electromyostimulation) activates the muscles through electrical impulses - in addition to voluntary movement. This means: higher muscle activity with the same movement sequence. This creates a measurable stimulus, particularly during complex or tiring workouts, without putting additional strain on joints or tendons.
Advantages at a glance:
- Higher training intensity in less time
- Targeted activation of deeper muscle layers
- Supports regeneration
- Reduction of imbalances through even stimulation
- Mobile & flexible integration into the training environment
Antelope's 40 Hertz endurance programme (350 μs pulse width) was specially developed for use during dynamic movements - e.g. running or in functional sequences such as the Farmer's Carry. You don't train harder here - you train smarter.
Jessica Wielens shows how it's done
One of the athletes who specifically integrates EMS into her HYROX preparation is Jessica Wielens (@fitmitjess). The experienced competitor regularly uses Antelope in her training routine - whether to increase strength, for running economy or for faster recovery after hard sessions.
Training planning with EMS - here's how!
How exactly can you integrate EMS into your HYROX routine?
- 2x/week in endurance units (e.g. interval runs or longer endurance runs) to activate the leg and core muscles
- 1-2x/week in strength units with functional exercises such as lunges, pushes, thrusters
- Regenerative EMS programme after particularly intensive units or competitions (7-12 Hz, 15-20 minutes each)
The training remains completely functional - EMS acts as a booster, not a substitute.
Conclusion
HYROX demands everything from your body - EMS gives you the tools to better prepare it for this.
Antelope enables you to train functional movements with more muscle activation. If you want to get more out of your preparation, you should see EMS not just as an add-on, but as an integral part of your HYROX training.
